Okay this goes out to all the people who never want to take a photo any more because they truly feel their age is making them look terrible in photos. I recently had a freind of mine post a photo of herself when she was younger and said… you know you are getting older when you begin to post old photos of yourself. I thought about it and think …. yes I too hate taking photos now because I do the same… I analyze it to the wee ends. Being a photographer doesn’t help I got to say.
We tend to have a hard time looking at ourselves age? Why? I have always wondered what I was going to look like in my old age and now a days we have apps to help us along. Did one the other day and I wasn’t sure if I turned a 100 with grace or did I look like the tornado of hell hit me. We all don’t seem to like watching ourselves age but yet I remember my grandmother being one of the most beautiful women I knew in her 90’s. Was it how she tied her hair, or her laughter, or how she lived a simple life that made her beautiful?
I hate taking photos. Not taking the photos but being in the photos. Old photos remind me of good old days but we got to remember the photos we take today does the same thing when we are 80 or 90. Photos are our diaries of memories it is why we take them. I always tell my students… I am not here to teach you how to become a professional photographer but here to make sure you are able to capture the moments in your life that matter most not the seconds that you take today on snapchat.
We should celebrate that we are getitng older. We need to embrace and be grateful for the memories we get to make today. Photos of us today is okay with the rolls, the wrinkles and the bad hair days (for me this is a thing). No one knows your journey like you do your own. I recently had someone say… people who look old and fat is because they don’t take care of themselves. No, people all have their journeys, We have had moments where we can’t take care of oursleves as we are taking care of others, or life doesn’t at the moment allow us to take care of ourselves of our daily stresses. But be kind to yourselg and others as we are all trying our best.
Take the family photos and I see you putting your child infront of you in order to hide the waste extension. Know we all do it! LOL and that is okay but don’t stop taking photos as they are the memories of our lives an the reminder of how lucky we are to see another day and especially see old age.
Big Hugs my friends.
